Torre Mora's Etna Rosso Scalunera is 97% Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio the remaining 3%. We are in Contrada Dafara Galluzzo in Rovvitello, about 700 metres above sea level; the plants are raised with the traditional sapling and the name "Scalunera", which in Sicilian means stairway, evokes the suggestive landscape in which they grow, a succession of lava stone walls almost composing an amphitheatre. The grapes are harvested in the second half of October and vinified with a short maceration (about 2 weeks); after malolactic fermentation, the wine rests for 24 months in oak barrels and another 4 in the bottle.
Torre Mora's Etna Rosso Scalunera is a shimmering ruby red with a garnet edge. The nose shows a refined intertwining of cherry, raspberry, mulberry, date, wet earth, musk, smoky tobacco and fresh menthol. In the mouth, it is full, soft, with a silky tannin and a pleasant sapidity at the end. Very good with the veal liver escalope with herbs.
