Cantine Povero's Barolo Priore is accompanied by the company with this phrase: "Named because the most cultured. The guide for a community, to which the most important decisions were entrusted". The vineyards from which this Nebbiolo is born are on soils of sands and limestone clays. The company owns 50 hectares in that part of Piedmont where Langhe, Roero and Monferrato meet and cultivates 7 native varieties, each in its most vocational territory. The Nebbiolo destined to generate the Barolo Priore was harvested by hand and vinified in temperature-controlled steel vats; the wine then underwent malolactic fermentation and aged 38 months in oak barrels and a subsequent period in the bottle.
Cantine Povero's Barolo Priore has an intense garnet red colour. The bouquet develops from dried violet and rose to cinnamon, goudron, undergrowth, and again, plum, cherries, strawberries and liquorice. On the palate, it enters soft and balanced, with subtle tannins and long fruity persistence. Very good with the Castelmagno risotto.
